Abstract

Abstract

Background: Mapping of sexual behavior of male sex with men in 2007 in 10 districts/cities in Central Java showed 52.1 percent had anal sex and only 19.3 percent used condoms consistently. MSM performs risky activities infected with HIV / AIDS such as heterosexual groups. HIV / AIDS cases in MSM groups continue to increase every year.

Objective: This study was conducted to determine risk factors associated with HIV/AIDS incidence in groups of MSM.

Method: The study design was case control, mixed method approach with indepth interview. The number of samples is 108 with 1: 1 ratio of each group of 54 respondents in Semarang City. Quantitative data were analyzed by kai square and qualitative data by data reduction, presentation, and conclusion / data verification.

Results: Proven risk factors for HIV/AIDS were first sexual intercourse at a young age (≤16 years), high-risk sexual behavior, inconsistent use of condoms, and more than 1 sexual partner. The reason why MSM do unsafe sexual behavior is to seek sensation during sex, get temptation and pay.

Conclusion: Young age is sexually linked, inconsistent with condom use and sexual intercourse is a factor associated with HIV/AIDS risk in MSM groups. Therefore, there needs to be integrated promotion and education to address issues ranging from sexual orientation to safe sexual behavior.
